Why does methylene blue work for some people?
Methylene blue may feel helpful for some people because its effect depends on the condition of the system it enters. If mitochondrial energy pathways are responsive and the foundations of sleep, stress regulation, movement, nutrition, and recovery are in place, the benefit may feel clearer. A weak or short-lived response can point elsewhere.
A Strong Response Does Not Prove What Was Missing
One place the thinking can stop too early is assuming that because methylene blue helps, you have identified the cause of the problem.
The video makes a more careful distinction. A clear improvement in focus, mental energy, or attention shows that your system was able to respond to the input. It does not prove that methylene blue was correcting the underlying reason your energy was low.
That matters because a supplement can amplify a pathway that is already capable of responding while a deeper constraint remains untouched.
Your Response Can Reveal the State of the System
Dr. Kenny describes three broad response patterns.
A clear, clean response may suggest that the foundation is stable enough to turn that input into usable energy.
A minimal response may suggest that the pathway methylene blue is influencing is not the main bottleneck. Something else may be limiting energy more substantially.
An improvement that fades quickly can point to a system that is responsive but does not yet have enough reserve to sustain the change.
As a functional medicine practitioner, I find that distinction more useful than simply labeling a supplement as effective or ineffective.
Timing Matters More Than Most Supplement Advice Admits
Methylene blue is presented in the video as a higher-level tool, not a foundation.
Dr. Kenny explains that he did not use it early in his own process. He first spent years working on areas such as digestion, stress regulation, hormonal patterns, sleep quality, movement, nutrition, and recovery.
That sequence matters. A targeted energy tool can only build on what the rest of the system is already capable of supporting.
This is also why two people can take the same compound and report very different results. The input may be identical. The system receiving it is not.
The More Useful Question Is What the Response Means
At Dr. Kenny’s clinic, the value of a supplement response is not limited to whether you felt better.
The response becomes another piece of information in the case.
Did the change feel clear and sustainable? Was there almost no effect? Did it help briefly, then disappear?
Those patterns can change where the investigation goes next. The important part is not turning methylene blue into another universal answer. It is understanding whether your system had the capacity, foundation, and timing to use that tool well in the first place.
